Do I have to join the group insurance plan provided by my employer?

The answer is “yes”. In Quebec, if you are eligible for coverage under a private plan (employer-sponsored group insurance), you have to join and cover your spouse and children.

If you were registered for the public plan (RAMQ) and you become eligible to join a private plan (employer-sponsored group insurance), you need to notify the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).

If you’re no longer eligible for group insurance under your employer’s plan, you need to notify the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).
